The Man With The Golden Arm

About

Saul Bass was an American graphic designer and Oscar-winning filmmaker, best known for his design of motion-picture title sequences, film posters, and corporate logos. Bass invented the idea of titling movies—with highly symbolic sequences that served to unify and drive entire advertising campaigns. The Man with the Golden Arm is seen as his more famous title sequence for a movie about a musician’s struggle to overcome a heroin addiction. Bass chose the arm as the central image, as a means of relating to heroin addiction. Bass once described his main goal for his work to ‘’try to reach for a simple, visual phrase that tells you what the picture is all about and evokes the essence of the story.”
