Monk + Coltrane

About

For a mere six months in 1957, John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk collaborated together at the famed Blue Spot Cafe in New York’s Bowery neighborhood. This collaboration between two of Jazz’s most renowned and influential musicians produced only a handful of recordings, the best of which sat untouched in the Library of Congress archives for 48 years. In 2005, a recording lab supervisor discovered the recording by accident while digitizing the archives. Newsweek said the discovery was the musical equivalent of discovering a new Mount Everest. The album artwork, by Burton Yount, has been recognized as one of the best Jazz album designs of all time.
