About

Frank Shepard Fairey is an American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, activist, and illustrator. The Institute of Contemporary Art has described him as one of the best known and most influential street artists of the 21st century for his  “bold iconic style that is based on styling and idealizing images.” The OBEY icon is derived from Farey’s original André the Giant Has a Posse” sticker campaign from 1989. This later evolved into the “Obey Giant” campaign in 1992, which has grown via an international network of collaborators replicating Fairey’s original designs. Fairey intended the Obey Giant to inspire curiosity and cause people to question their relationship with their surroundings.
